NDIS Transport Assistance

NDIS transport assistance helps you get where you need to go, whether that’s a support worker who drives you, help using public transport or funding towards taxis and rideshare. On Solotude, you can find independent support workers who offer transport.

What transport assistance usually includes

  • A support worker driving you to appointments, work or activities
  • Travel training to use buses, trains and ferries
  • Support to plan trips and routes
  • Help getting in and out of vehicles
  • Coming with you on public transport until you’re confident
If you’d like to travel more independently, travel training is worth asking about. A support worker can practise a route with you until you’re confident doing it on your own.

Transport funding in your plan

There are two different things people mean by NDIS transport. Some plans include transport funding you can spend on taxis, rideshare or community transport when your disability stops you using public transport. Separately, when a support worker drives you as part of a support, they can usually claim their vehicle costs per kilometre from your plan, as agreed with you. Check your plan to see whether you have transport funding, and agree any kilometre costs with your support worker up front.

Who provides transport assistance?

Support workers provide most transport assistance. Many list on their profile whether they have a car and are happy to drive participants. If you want to drive yourself, an occupational therapist who does driving assessments can help.

How much does NDIS transport assistance cost?

When a support worker drives you during a support, they usually charge their hourly rate for the support plus an agreed amount per kilometre, within the NDIS price limits. Transport funding in your plan is separate, and how you receive it depends on your plan. Transport supports aren’t affected by the budget changes from 1 October 2026. Every provider on Solotude shows their rate on their profile, so you know the cost before you message them. For current price limits, check the official NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits.
