NDIS Occupational Therapy Assessment

An NDIS occupational therapy assessment looks at how you manage everyday life, and what would make it easier, safer or more independent. On Solotude, you can find independent occupational therapists who do NDIS assessments and reports.

What an OT assessment usually looks at

  • Personal care, like showering, dressing and eating
  • Moving around your home and getting in and out of bed
  • Household tasks, like cooking and cleaning
  • Getting out in the community, work or study
  • Your home setup and any equipment you use
  • Your goals, and what’s getting in the way

How it works

  1. You talk with the OT about your daily life, your goals and what’s hard.
  2. The OT watches you do some everyday tasks, usually at home, and may use standardised assessment tools.
  3. They write a report with their findings and recommendations.
  4. You can use the report to make changes, and as evidence for your plan.

Where an OT assessment can lead

An OT assessment is often the first step to other supports. The recommendations can support requests for assistive technology, home modifications, more support hours or therapy to build your skills. A clear, well-evidenced report makes those requests much easier.

Who provides ot assessments?

OT assessments are done by occupational therapists. Some specialise in particular areas, like children, mental health, home modifications or driving, so it’s worth asking about their experience with needs like yours.

How much does NDIS ot assessments cost?

Therapy is usually paid from your Capacity Building budget, under Improved Daily Living. The NDIS sets an hourly price limit for each type of therapy, and it applies to time spent on assessments, sessions and writing reports. Therapists can usually also claim some travel time to come to you. Before you book, ask how many hours the assessment and report are likely to take, so you know the total cost up front. Every provider on Solotude shows their rate on their profile, so you know the cost before you message them. For current price limits, check the official NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits.
