Who you can book

It depends on how your plan is managed.

How your plan is managed Who you can book What you pay
Self-managed Registered or unregistered providers You agree the price with the provider
Plan-managed Registered or unregistered providers Up to the NDIS price limit
NDIA-managed (agency-managed) Registered providers only Up to the NDIS price limit

Solotude is built for independent sole traders and small providers. Many aren’t registered with the NDIS, and that’s fine if you’re self-managed or plan-managed. Every provider still has to follow the NDIS Code of Conduct. Price limits are set in the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits.

How to choose the right provider

  1. Check your plan funds the support you need, and which budget it comes from.
  2. Check they have what their job needs. Use the tables above. You can look up nurses, OTs, physios and psychologists on the Ahpra register.
  3. Ask about their hourly rate, travel costs and cancellation policy before you start.
  4. Make sure they cover your area and have time when you need it.
  5. Have a first chat. You should feel comfortable, heard and safe.

When you’re ready, write down what you’ve agreed in a service agreement. If it isn’t working out, you can change providers.

How Solotude works

  1. Create a free account on Solotude. It takes a couple of minutes and you don’t need your NDIS number.

We don’t touch your plan money

Solotude is a directory, not an agency. We don’t book, invoice or take a cut. You agree the price with your provider and pay them the usual way: yourself, through your plan manager, or through the NDIA. Providers never pay us a commission on your support, so your whole budget goes to the person helping you.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find an NDIS provider?

Start with the type of support in your plan. Then search a directory like Solotude by provider type and location. Read profiles, message a few providers and ask about their rates and qualifications. Your support coordinator can help too. Once you choose someone, write down what you’ve agreed in a service agreement.

Can I use an unregistered NDIS provider?

Yes, if your plan is self-managed or plan-managed. If your plan is NDIA-managed, only registered providers can be paid. Unregistered providers must still follow the NDIS Code of Conduct. Specialist behaviour support always needs a registered provider.

What’s the difference between a registered and unregistered NDIS provider?

A registered provider has been audited and approved by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. An unregistered provider hasn’t been through that process, but must still follow the NDIS Code of Conduct. Many skilled sole traders don’t register because audits are costly. Both can be paid from self-managed and plan-managed plans.

Which part of my NDIS plan pays for therapy?

Most therapy, like occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech pathology, psychology and counselling, is paid from Improved Daily Living in your Capacity Building budget. Exercise physiology and dietetics can also come from Health and Wellbeing. Behaviour support has its own category. Everyday help from support workers, cleaners and gardeners comes from your Core budget.

Is Solotude free for participants?

Yes. Searching, messaging and posting jobs are free for participants, families and support coordinators. There are no booking fees and no commission. Providers pay a flat subscription to be listed, so nothing comes out of your plan to use Solotude.

Do I need a referral to see an NDIS provider?

Usually not. If the support is funded in your plan, you can contact the provider yourself. A GP referral is for Medicare-funded sessions, not NDIS ones. Some therapists may ask for reports or your plan goals so they can plan the right support for you.

Can I change NDIS providers?

Yes, you can change providers at any time. Check your service agreement for how much notice you need to give. Then search for someone new. Your funding stays with you, not the provider, so you can take it to whoever suits you best.

What if I can’t find the provider I need?

Post a job on Solotude. Say what support you need, where and when. Providers who match your needs can reply to you directly. It’s free for you, and it’s often quicker than searching, especially for hard-to-find roles like behaviour support practitioners.
