NDIS Community Access and Participation

NDIS community access support helps you get out, join in and take part in the things that matter to you, from sport and classes to shopping and volunteering. On Solotude, it’s provided by independent support workers you choose yourself.

What community access usually includes

  • Going to classes, clubs, sport and the gym
  • Shopping, cafes, libraries and local events
  • Volunteering, study or getting ready for work
  • Visiting friends and family
  • Building confidence to go out on your own
  • Joining group programs and activities
Community access works best when it’s built around your interests, not just getting out of the house. Look for a support worker who shares your interests or knows your local area, and tell them what you’d like to try.

What the NDIS doesn’t pay for

Community access funding pays for the disability-related support that helps you take part, like a support worker coming with you. It usually doesn’t pay for the activity itself, like entry tickets, memberships, class fees, meals or your own transport. If you’re in NSW, a Companion Card can get your support worker free entry at participating venues and events.

Who provides community access?

Community access is delivered by support workers. Many independent support workers on Solotude list the activities they enjoy, so you can find someone who’ll make it more fun.

How much does NDIS community access cost?

Community access is usually paid from your Core Supports budget, under Assistance with Social, Economic and Community Participation. You can use it for one-on-one support or group programs. The NDIS sets price limits, and rates change with the time of day, the day of the week and the ratio of workers to participants. Your support worker may also claim some travel costs. From 1 October 2026, this budget is being reduced as plans are created or reassessed, and from 1 February 2027 at renewal. Read the official NDIS update on support budget changes. Every provider on Solotude shows their rate on their profile, so you know the cost before you message them. For current price limits, check the official NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits.
