NDIS speech therapy helps children understand and use language, speak clearly and communicate with the people around them. On Solotude, you can find independent speech pathologists who work with children and their families.
Children’s speech therapy usually starts with an assessment, then goals set with the family. Sessions are often play-based, and can happen at home, at childcare or school, in a clinic or by telehealth. Parents are a big part of it, because the most progress happens in everyday moments between sessions.
Thriving Kids: what’s changing
Thriving Kids is a new program for children aged 8 and under with developmental delay or autism and low to moderate support needs. It started on 1 October 2026 and runs outside the NDIS, through health services, early childhood services and schools. It’s being rolled out in stages and is expected to be fully running by 1 January 2028.
NDIS eligibility for children isn’t changing until 1 January 2028. Children with permanent and significant disability, including those with high support needs, will continue to be supported by the NDIS. For the latest, see the NDIS Thriving Kids update.
