What it can help with

  • Aphasia and language difficulties after a stroke or brain injury
  • Unclear speech, like dysarthria
  • Voice and stuttering
  • Swallowing difficulties
  • Communication devices and other AAC
  • Social communication, and training family and support workers

How sessions work

Your speech pathologist starts with an assessment, then sets goals with you. Sessions can happen at home, in the community, at work, in a clinic or by telehealth. A big part of good speech therapy is practice between sessions, so many speech pathologists also train your family or support workers to help.

Who provides speech therapy for adults?
