NDIS or Medicare?

The NDIS funds psychology that helps you manage the impact of your disability on daily life and work towards your plan goals. Treatment for a mental health condition on its own, like depression or anxiety that isn’t linked to your disability, is usually funded through the health system. Medicare gives rebates for up to 10 individual sessions a year with a mental health treatment plan from your GP. Many people use both, for different things.

Who provides psychology?

NDIS psychology is provided by registered psychologists. If you mostly need someone to talk to and help with coping skills, a counsellor may also suit.

How much does NDIS psychology cost?

Therapy is usually paid from your Capacity Building budget, under Improved Daily Living. The NDIS sets an hourly price limit for each type of therapy, and it applies to time spent on assessments, sessions and writing reports. Therapists can usually also claim some travel time to come to you. The price limit for psychology is higher than for most other therapies. Every provider on Solotude shows their rate on their profile, so you know the cost before you message them. For current price limits, check the official NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits.
