Counselling in Sydney
A counsellor gives you a safe space to talk through what’s going on, from stress and relationships to big life changes. Under the NDIS, counselling is usually funded when it’s linked to your disability and your goals.
- Stress, worry and low mood
- Relationships and family
- Grief and life changes
- Adjusting to disability
- Building confidence
- Support for carers
Many Sydney counsellors offer telehealth as well as in-person sessions. That can make it easier to fit counselling into your week, especially if travel across the city is hard for you.
For the full picture on what NDIS counsellors do, how they differ from psychologists and current price limits, see our NDIS counsellors guide.
Every counsellor on Solotude is checked
Before a counsellor appears in search, we check their photo ID, their ABN and the NDIS Commission’s compliance records. Membership of a counselling body listed on ARCAP, such as the Australian Counselling Association or PACFA, is highly recommended. Holding it is the counsellor’s own responsibility, and it shows on their profile as self-reported, so ask for their membership details before you start.
Many counsellors also add an NDIS Worker Screening Check or a Working with Children Check. We verify those too, and you can filter your search to only see counsellors who hold them. Read how it works in our Verification Policy.

What counselling costs in Sydney
Sydney uses the standard NDIS price limits, with no remote loading. Providers can usually also claim some travel time to get to you, up to 30 minutes in metro areas like Sydney, so someone who lives closer can stretch your funding further. Telehealth sessions have no travel time.
Every counsellor on Solotude shows their rate on their profile, so you know the cost before you message them. See current price limits on our NDIS counsellors page. You can also check the official NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits.

Frequently asked questions
Is it free to browse counsellors on Solotude?
Yes. Solotude is free for participants, families and support coordinators. You sign up free, search counsellors in your part of Sydney and message them directly. There are no booking fees and nothing comes out of your plan for using Solotude.
Do counsellors in Sydney travel across suburbs?
Some do. Each counsellor sets the suburbs they cover, and many also offer telehealth. Search by your own suburb, then check how they run sessions in your first message.
How much does a counsellor cost in Sydney?
Sydney uses the standard NDIS price limits for counselling, with no remote loading. Counsellors may also claim up to 30 minutes of travel time for home visits. Each counsellor shows their rate on their profile, and our NDIS counsellors page lists the current limits. The official limits are in the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits.
Can I choose a counsellor outside my local area?
Yes. You can message any counsellor on Solotude. Just check they’re happy to travel to you, or offer telehealth where that suits, and whether they’ll charge travel time, before you agree on anything.
What qualifications do counsellors need?
Counselling isn’t regulated by Ahpra, so the title isn’t protected by law. Look for a counsellor who’s a member of a body listed on ARCAP, such as the Australian Counselling Association or PACFA. On Solotude, membership is self-reported, so ask for their details before you start.
Should I see a counsellor or a psychologist?
A counsellor is a good fit for talking things through and building coping skills. A psychologist is registered with Ahpra and can also do formal assessments and treat more complex mental health conditions. If you’re not sure, ask your support coordinator or GP.
