NDIS demand in the Northern Beaches

  • 4,526 NDIS participants live in the Northern Beaches council area, the most of any council in the North Sydney district.
  • It is an older community: the median age is 41 and 18.2% of residents are 65 or over, compared with 15.2% across Greater Sydney.
  • The 10 biggest providers receive 30% of NDIS payments in the North Sydney district, the most concentrated market in Sydney, so participants are often looking for independent alternatives.
  • With no train line and long distances from Manly to Palm Beach, local providers save participants long travel times.

Where you’ll find work

Participants post jobs and search for support workers across the Northern Beaches, including Manly, Dee Why, Brookvale, Mona Vale, Narrabeen, Collaroy, Frenchs Forest, Avalon, Newport and Palm Beach. Set your service area on your profile and you’ll show up in local searches.

What you can charge

You set your own rate. For NDIS-funded supports, these are the 2026-27 price limits that apply in Sydney:

Support Line item Price limit
Self-care, weekday daytime 01_011_0107_1_1 $73.58
Self-care, weekday evening 01_015_0107_1_1 $81.07
Self-care, Saturday 01_013_0107_1_1 $103.54
Self-care, Sunday 01_014_0107_1_1 $133.50
Self-care, public holiday 01_012_0107_1_1 $163.46
Community access, weekday daytime 04_104_0125_6_1 $73.58

Support work has high turnover: the NDIS Review found 17% to 25% of support workers leave their job each year. Participants who find someone reliable tend to keep them, so a good profile pays off for years.

What you need to get started

  • An ABN. You need one to invoice participants and plan managers.
  • An NDIS Worker Check through Service NSW. It isn’t legally required for unregistered providers, but most participants and coordinators ask for it, and you can show it as verified on Solotude.
  • To follow the NDIS Code of Conduct, which applies to every provider, registered or not.
  • Public liability insurance is strongly recommended, even though it isn’t mandatory for unregistered providers.
