Recommendations for Engaging in Support with Providers.

Engaging with providers for the first time can feel overwhelming, but asking the right questions and setting clear expectations can ensure a successful partnership. When contacting a provider for the first time, it's important to gather all the necessary information to ensure they are the right fit for your needs. Here are some recommended questions:

  • What days and times are you available to provide support?
  • Do you offer services on weekends or public holidays? (if applicable)
  • Can you tell me about your experience?
  • Do you have any specific qualifications or certifications relevant to my needs?
  • What specific services do you provide?
  • Are there any tasks or activities you do not provide or are not comfortable with?
  • What are your hourly or session rates?
  • Are you registered with the NDIS? (Please note, if the provider says no, then the provider can only work with participants whose funds are plan managed or self-managed.)
  • Can you provide support with restrictive practices? (optional, please note, if you have restricted practices in your plan, you can only engage registered NDIS providers to provide support to you)
  • Are you willing to provide references from previous clients?
  • Do you provide a meet and greet opportunity?

These questions and any others relevant to you will help you assess the providers compatibility with your needs and their approach to providing care. It’s important to have clear and open communication from the start to ensure a positive and productive relationship.

Staying Safe When Engaging with New Providers.

In addition to asking the above questions, it’s important to take certain actions to ensure your safety when meeting a new provider.

Assess Safety Risks

Initial Meetings If you are meeting a provider for the first time or if services are delivered face-to-face, consider arranging the initial meeting in a public space. This can enhance safety and provide a neutral setting for both parties.

Trusted Contacts Inform a trusted friend or family member about the details of your meeting, including the time, location, and provider’s name. Keeping someone informed can offer an additional layer of security.

Discuss Safety Concerns If you have specific safety concerns or requirements, discuss them openly with the provider to ensure they are addressed.

Verify Provider Credentials

Check Qualifications Ensure that the provider has the necessary qualifications and credentials to deliver the services you need. You can review their profile on Solotude and ask for additional documentation if necessary.

Read Reviews Look at reviews and ratings from previous users to gauge the provider’s reliability and quality of service.

Communicate Clearly

Define Expectations Clearly communicate your needs and expectations to the provider before services begin. This helps ensure that both parties are on the same page regarding the scope of support.

Funding Confirmation Confirm that you have the necessary funding amount and funding type (agency/plan/self-managed funds) before engaging with a provider. Ensure that the provider is aware of your funding status and any associated requirements.
